Reddog Kennels was started in 1983 when Dana and Mardie Smith got their first toller, Duke. He was was one of the first Tollers to be born and registered in the United States and was a son of the famous Rusty Jones. Duke was a companion to Mardie and Dana's children who were 4 and 8 at the time, a hunting buddy for Dana, and Mardie's running companion. The Smith's lived in NYC and East Hampton, NY, and proved that Tollers make excellent town and country dogs. They immediately became involved with NSDTRC-USA and got into all the wonderful sports that these little red heads so thoroughly enjoy. While the Smith's loved field activities the most, they also believed that obedience training was essential. And indeed Reddog Tollers love all the games! They have participated in agility, tracking, competed in obedience and conformation and competed in field events with all of Dukes descendents. Our males, Duke and his grandson, Parker, have been excellent stud dogs who have produced many champions and high performance dogs, as well as beloved pets across the nation.
